Dating Moms and Dads

Ahhh! The joys of dating! Getting to know one another and enjoying each other’s company. This is the time to let you hair down and get back to having some “you” time. That’s right. Remember you? Being a single parent means that you are responsible for another person that depends on you to love and cherish them. Guide them through the journey of life. It does not mean that you have to sacrifice yourself along the way. We all crave companionship and someone to love us, and you are no different. So, go out and have fun! You never know where things may lead.
Counseling Before Covenant
I strongly suggest that everybody gets counseling before taking the plunge into marriage. I stress it even more if you are a single parent. You will not only being blending your life, but the lives of the children into one family, which may be unchartered territory. Assuming that your child will be accepting of your mate just because he or she got along before the engagement is unwise. When it occurs to them that your relationship is at a more serious level, there will be 1 or 2 responses – joy or resistance (which may be because they have to share you with someone else). Here’s a suggestion: Engage your child in the counseling process to get some feedback on how you can smooth any gaps before you consider saying, “I Do”.
